Listing in foreign languages using upload tool

Amazon Seller Topics
Hi!

I am trying to upload my items onto Amazon.de using the flat files and Microsoft Excel on a MacBook. However, all of the special characters (e.g. ö) get turned into random symbols so that the titles and descriptions make no sense.

I have tried changing fonts, using Numbers instead of Excel, uploading via .xls and .txt - none of which has helped.

Has anyone encountered this before?

Hi! I am sorry I can not answer your question, however you have made me question something. How do you transfer your listings to another marketplace? We have tried with 'listing internationally' but does not work.

Thanks and good luck with your doubt

I upload every item from scratch using the same EAN and SKU on every marketplace so that the items are linked - the images carry across to the other marketplace but everything else I have to add in again. This is because the items do not exist in the other marketplace, but if they are already there I don't think this is necessary.

I've used Gengo to translate all my titles and product descriptions and it seems fairly accurate.

Hope that helps!

Thank you very much! Your help have been really useful

I'm also curious: whenever I add a listing to one EU marketplace (Germany, for example), the listing will then appear automatically across all other European marketplaces (we always add using fulfillment by Amazon). But when I view these automatically added listings in the other marketplaces, they're usually missing some information, like product title.

Do you know how I would edit these products? There is no "edit product" option when in the "Manage FBA inventory" page.

I appreciate any input or experience anyone has with this issue.

Go into the inventory page on each site and add any missing info.

Hi, Did anyone figure out the solution here? Ran in to the same problem and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I have been uploaded the files as an Excel document rather than a txt file and that seems to be working at the moment for me.

have you used the correct flat file?
Remember that you will need the German version, for that particular category of product.
If you've used the English version, you'll get issues.

German versions here:-

Do these listing already exist across all/some marketplaces, or are you creating a completely new listing?
Bullet points and product descriptions do not get replicated to other marketplaces. However, the title always will. The title is also mandatory in all templates, so I can't figure that one out.

Thanks for the input. I have used the German flat file and it doesn't work. In the txt file I can see the special characters correctly shown. Seems to be when the file is processed by Amazon that the issue occurs.

OK. Just trying to think outside the box.
What software re you using to prepare the txt file? Excel?
If so, what version are you using (I know from my experience that Excel 2003 for example will not work).

Thank you thebuttoncuff!! You made my day. Special characters work fine when I uploaded the excel-file instead of the txt file.

Thanks for your input Toy Seller!

Glad you got it sorted.
