Sales ranking change overnight

Amazon Seller Topics
I am not new to selling on Amazon so I do know that the sales rankings can change quickly. However, my product was selling really well and reached around 15k in the Home and Garden section. Then overnight I have dropped down to 50k. Other people selling similar products to myself are still up in the teens. It is almost as if I have lost sales overnight but as the sole stockist I know this is not the case. I did amend my product listing a bit but can't believe this can have such a dramatic effect. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Sales ranking - you can drop because other items are doing better. Including the similar items - perhaps the buying public are buying more of them than yours.
Its the problem having an item so unique you are the sole stockist people can decide to buy different more popular stuff.

Hi

I don't really bother about product rankings as they are influenced by so many things out of our control - not least competitors, their promotions and their items. Had sales plummeted by that much then I would worry and start to investigate.

Bit confused as having looked at your storefront I can see you only have 1 item listed which is currently at 21,526 in Kitchen & Home and you're not the only seller - unless I'm looking at the wrong The Real Tree Scent Company and there are several sellers with the same name?? As it is a seasonal item its ranking is bound to fluctuate.

(By the way, when you respond to buyer feedback you shouldn't add your email address as it indicates your website URL)

Cheers
Alison

It happens,I have an item that has gone from 300 to 7,000 in Sports.

There are times prefer the change to go the other way..... :)

When looking deeper they just have the item listed 5 times, so are the only seller.

Thanks for all your comments

I thought it was against the rules to list the same item multiple times, or do i have the wrong end of the stick here?

No, you're right - according to Amazon's guidelines if same item in same condition, should be listed once with number available in the quantity box.

For the record, one of our consistently top-selling items went from 500 to 2000 over the weekend in Sports & Outdoors. Its now back up to 429 today so I think there must have been a glitch.

One of ours hovers around number 1 - probably helped by amazon getting several pallets of it.

Thank you for clarifying that! I thought this was the case too! What do we do about sellers who list items multiple times (I've got competitors who list the same EAN under different ASINs as different sized multipacks) or who create a new ASIN just to get in the buy box. Do we report them to Seller Support or do we just let it go...?
